Hello, this is my first post in here :) I really need advice from people that knows what it's like to have SAD.
I'm a 22 year old girl, i got a job at McDonalds 2 months ago to be able to pay for college, it's my first real job. And so far, it's mentally exhausting me, i'm working in the kitchen, so, there's usually lots of screaming and doing and lots of people in a small kitchen, i got used to sceaming myself in there, but, i feel like i can't do anything ok, i feel so below avarage, i think my co-workers hate me because i suck at the job, and it makes me feel worse because it's not really that hard, and i just feel i can't do it ok.
I've been going to a psychologist for 2 years i think, and i've improved so much! SO much!! I've never had a panick attack in my life, but sometimes when the situations get too stressful (aka saturday night with the place full and lots of food coming out), i get so anxious, and when the situations is too much for me i go into, what i call, a "semi-panick attack", i just have to get out of there, fast!! So i start crying and i just run away, and i feel like i can't breath, i feel like i'm such a failure. I had this happened to me twice in my workplace, so i ended up telling my managers that i had SAD, they're all very understanding, and even told me that when i felt everything was too much for me i should tell them and then take a break to calm down.
But, if i do anything, anything at all wrong, i get VERY anxious, and some of my co-workers treat me like i'm stupid (they don't know i have SAD), or just yell at me, or they get angry, and i get depressed. And my managers treat me with kid gloves sometimes, which doesn't really bother me, but sometimes i wish it wasn't that way, i want to be like anybody else!!
I guess the problems is that i feel like my co-workers hate me, or get upset when they know i have to work the same day they do. I get moved from places a lot (first in the chicken area, then the burger area, then another place and so on), annd maybe it's me, but i can't stop thinking, they move me because noone wants me around.
I'm sorry i wrote so much!!! But what do you think?? What should i do??

How are your marks in college? Do your professors know you to see you? The reason I put that out there is maybe you could ask around about finding work related to your course.

A college isn't just about providing you with an education... It's about helping you find work, too. There must be some kind of employment-seekers' help in your school. Your tuition pays for those kinds of services.

I would suggest sticking it out at McDonald's and making nice with whoever you might list as a reference, while you look for other work.

You have the benefit of being a student. People like hiring students, especially when their program relates to the work itself.

And having McDonald's on your resume should reflect positively on you. Everyone knows it's an awful job. If you're able to stomach it for any length of time without getting yourself fired, it can only look good, right? That's my line of thinking, anyway.

I'm a veterinary student, i'm still in second year in a 5 year and half career. There's really not many choices with my career still being a student. I live in Argentina and finding a job here is pretty difficult, sadly in here, students are not really that wanted for jobs. I don't want to quit because that's all i've got, but i don't know how to deal with the job and the people there!!

I would think that a lot of people in there may not have that much of an education. Since this is your first job, I doubt they would hold it against you. There is really only so much they can do. I would just learn how to do your job well - everybody makes mistakes.

I also worked at McDonald's during college - three summers and a winter break.

first of all, we're all proud of you to keep up with that ****ty job, sometimes whats worse than co-workers is the customers themselves, they never appreciate the hard working people , they get mad for the ****tiest things and treat people like slaves, which is totally wrong.

to be honest, i had bad jobs, i even had to quit from a lot of them cuz my co-workers would give me that hateful stare, so i'd be like fk it im too good for that, sadly, you need your education. but since you're a girl. why dont you look for a job as a secretary? sale girl? i mean there are lots of better jobs than mcdonalds . and if you're a good student, i suggest you talk to the director in the college, explain your situation, they might even recommend some places, or write a letter of recommendations.

wish you the best. stay strong.

I understand so much how you feel. Hang in there, at least long enough to get a good professional reference from them.
No, no, no. A reference from McDonalds won't mean **** to anyone important. Not grad schools, not big companies, not anyone.

Stay at McDonalds the exact length of time until you find something better, anything better.

If you are in school they usually have work-study which pays the same or even more per hour, and those references mean something, because they are from a "college."

Jobs like McDonalds are just a right of passage, they build character, they give you insight and respect for what people have to do to make ends meet. But as soon as you can get out of their, LEAVE!!!! And never go back.

My 2 months at McDonalds was where I decided I had to finish college because I never wanted that type of job ever again.

McDonalds won't change their ways or work around you. McDonalds is like a learning step to realize that it's not where you want to be with all these low life chumps. Reality will set in and you'll see you're better than McDonalds and it'll push you into pursuing something better. Of course you'll have a set back in funds, but whatever choice you make it can't be as bleak as working at Mcdonalds.

I was so much like you

Hi I just signed up my name is aka.. Shurup . I want to say I was just like you . I had a job working in the kitchen of a fast paced restaurant , this one guy was always on me to go go go he kept me moving lol but it really wasn't funny . As I grew older I realized that they know , they know how you are that you have anxiety and that's exactly why they hired you . It's you that gets things done and they need people that don't really have as much confidence to say hey this is wrong and I want to be treated better!! If you will start by remembering this one rather simple thing that "we are all the same " if you are feeling such n such they probably do too . So don't let them try to fool you because that's what they are trying to do . Once you get that , that little voice inside of you is usually right about "stuff" and learn to trust it you win and people will know that you know . I hope that made some sense like I said I just signed on here and I'm having a lot of anxiety tonight but I wanted to try and share with you my first post!! Oh and i have very little forum posting experience but i will get better at it soon i hope .Thanks Shurup

I wouldn't curse someone with working there in a million years ><

My boyfriend worked at McDonakds for two years, and within that time he was bullied, had things stolen and broken, was sent off shift for nothing many times, didn't get enough hours to live on, was harassed, they did drugs there and had so many managers there my boyfriend had no chance of getting promoted from being a staff trainer, and then he got fired in the end.

If you don't like it there yourself - each branch is probably different - I'd suggest looking for another job whilst working there. My boyfriend didn't do that so he had to find something whilst on benefits >< but yeah, McDonalds is a terrible work place.. hm.

Hey Katsumi, I currently work at McDonald's as well. It was my very first job and this is my third time working there on and off. At first it started as a place that would hire me because I had no experience. Then when the economy got bad it was the only place I knew I could work because I have such low self-esteem I thought it would be the only place that wanted me. What people that don't have our problem don't understand this job is very challenging for us. So it is a great success that you have been able to work there with how stressful it is. Hang in there. Find one thing you like about it and focus on that the entire time. I also got insole pads for my work shoes and now standing on my feet for long periods of time doesn't even hurt. Try to make yourself as comfortable and nutured feeling as possible before you go in each day. That is what I have found to help that way when you get there you feel relaxed instead of stressed.

I remember getting absolutely hoarse from the Drive Thru.

I LOVED it when they would give me a difficult order and I had it exactly correct - and would repeat it all to them. It would surprise some people. :lol
