I did a colonoscopy prep like 2 weeks ago and I'm still thinking about that. I drank one cup of the Gavilyte prep they gave me. You're supposed to drink like a gallon of it. However I had the strongest reaction to just the one cup. Like it was insane. I turned red and hot. Threw up like 5 times. Hurt my eyes from throwing up.
I was worried about some potential nausea but this was more than I could have ever imagined. Something may be wrong with me... I did not read about anyone experiencing such a thing online. Anyway couldnt do my procedure 😅
My anxiety probably made things so much worse. I have such a huge fear of throwing up after my past experiences of food poisoning and the stomach bug. Me panicking surely didn't help
Im not over the event. It's still on my mind
Oh dear. This has me worried now. I have to get one next month and already have the same prep. I know from experience that my body does not throw up easily. By which I mean that I do get nauseated sometimes (and very easily) and feel like I might throw up but I don't actually throw up. And in fact like a year ago, I tried to make myself throw up with the finger thing because I thought i had accidentally swallowed a foreign object. Absolutely would not happen. My entire face had those little red spots on it from straining so hard.
Also, a few years ago, my dad had the same prep for his colonoscopy and was throwing up all night. Which I did know he threw up a few times but I didn't know he was throwing up all night. So when I took him to the hospital, he was still dry heaving. I had noticed that it looked like he was on the verge of having a seizure (he doesn't have a seizure disorder but I do and I know the symptoms). They didn't listen. He suddenly had one when we were sitting in the doctor's office talking to the doctor. I don't know why people don't listen when I warn them about things that I actually know. I told my mother before we left. I said "He's going to have a seizure. We should cancel this and take him to the ER". She just brushed it off.
Anyway, the point is that I guess he became easily dehydrated because of his age, which caused low sodium. Which caused a seizure. A pretty bad one.
Anyway, I've had a couple of colonoscopies previously but I used the Miralax method for those. This is the first time for this prep. I sure hope I don't have that reaction!
Do be sure to get yours done though. I wasn't in a rush to get my first one. They found a large polyp that they suspected to be a carcinoma. Fortunately, it turned out not to be but they said it would have been if left to change. Which is why I'm having to do another one. They have to make sure it didn't come back.
