Dating your former teacher

I know it's weird if you're still a student and she's still a teacher even if she doesn't teach your class. But after graduating, is it less awkward or still weird?

Let's say that she might be up to 2-3 years older.

When I went to my 10 year high school reunion, one of the former cheer leaders arrived with her husband. He had been one of the football coaches and they had been married for 9 years. No one really thought much about it because when we had been in school, he had just started teaching so there wasn't that big of an age difference. The last I heard, they were still married.

On the other hand, I have a cousin who used to babysit, the football coach's kids. He ended up getting a divorce and marrying her. They divorced after about 8 years.

What is it with football coaches and cheerleaders?

I also know of a music/band teacher who met his partner when the boy was in middle school. They started dating after graduation and have been together for over 30 years.

So you're just wondering if it's weird? Maybe a little in the sense that she used to be your superior in a strict school setting. But it's not weird age-wise since she's only around 2-3 years older. I'm sure if you guys get in relationship, you'll eventually get over the awkwardness....She might crack a few jokes about you test scores. Jkjk :p

But no, imo it's not that weird at all. And if people think you're weird, who cares? Date who you want. What matters though is if SHE thinks it's awkward. Who asked who on a date? Was it a formal way of asking or just hanging out, or happenchance? Was/is there a middle stage of being friends/acquaintances between the time that she was your teacher and where you are now (dating, or contemplating whether or not to)?

if you tell other people they will come up with every reason under the sun ("because only their opinion is right") to come up with reasons for why it cant work. people love to do this because they're insecure, jealous, brainwashed etc etc etc. and if u ask them they will never say "yes", they need to say "no" to maintain the illusion of being "polite" or "good". they're deceptive people with an agenda.

I'd say yes, but you should keep it quiet for a while. This stuff has a way of getting around and someone at some point may start to question if something was going on between the two of you before you left school, whether or not it's true.
I had a teacher who did this same thing; dated a student about a year after she hit college. It was pretty clean, as I heard from another teacher, but the first things I heard about this guy was that he got a student pregnant and married her while she was still a senior.
I don't find anything wrong with it, but if I were you I'd be careful about telling other people.
