Am I the only one that runs and hides when someone knocks on the front door?

It doesn't matter if it's family or a complete stranger, if I'm not expecting someone then I can't answer the door. Please tell me I'm not the only one?!

The other day I ran and hid, only for the knocker (my gran) to look through the window and see me; I wanted the ground to swallow me up. I guess I need to find better hiding places...

Nah the door offers me sufficient enough protection from the person while I have a look at who's there through the peephole. What are you hiding from exactly? Just curious if you think the person will hurt you or what..

Before today I would have answered "no" to this and yet while I was walking passed the door this-morning, my housemate came home and tried to open the door but it was locked. I was right there, all I had to do was open if for him and instead I bolted upstairs. I got about 3/4 of the way up then stopped, realising what I was doing and realising how ridiculous it was but he had unlocked it by then so I had to make sure he didn't see me and realise how rude I had been.

It was an almost subconscious decision to not unlock it for him and it worries me.

I sometimes do this. A few years ago my landlord came to the door when I was not expecting or wanting to see any people, so I hid out of sight of the front window. He circled around to the back door and I adjusted to hide in the blind spots of each window as he passed them like it was some sort of stealth video game. I felt so ashamed and pathetic, I knew I'd hit a new low.

Talking to the majority of people makes me nervous so, naturally, not answering the door to them is one of my many aversive behaviours. The phone is a greater enemy though!! Hearing/picking up the phone -> stress response -> scrambled brains & decreased attention + bad hearing + dodgy phone line -> looking like a ****. Unless it's someone I'm comfortable with ofc.

yeah it happened to me two days ago when my mum's friend came over, mum didn't let me hide so i had to go into the kitchen and meet her, i hate talking to people because they always ask questions - she asked about school and stuff, it was really awkward at first because i just stood there and she stared at me and i didnt know how to act but i survived it. apparently she turned red when she saw me i couldn't see properly,

I just did this about an hour ago. Someone rang the doorbell and I am sitting right there with the tv on so obviously I am home. But I froze and then snuck upstairs to peek out. It was two people with a clipboard and when they left they looked at the house and wrote something down. Now I will wonder forever who they were and what they wanted, and what they wrote down, and will they come back. Ahhh!

lol it depends if I know what it is then I will answer. Like if I'm expecting a package or something. Otherwise I stand completely motionless till they go away. Or tiptoe away to where I'm sure they won't see me and stand completely motionless. But if there are other people around then I answer it. I can't hide from the door with other people watching. =(

I never answer the door to strangers, but I'm usually always in my room at the back of the house so I check out my dad's bedroom window to make sure whoever it is has gone. I'll hide if they can see I'm inside, like hide round the corner of our kitchen from the view of the front door, or hide behind the living room door if I'm downstairs. If I know I'm expecting something in the post (that has actually sort of helped), then I'll sign for it, but usually I wait until it's left in the porch.

If it's my uncle (who I'm not very close to) visiting, I'll answer to him. Or my brother (again, who I'm not very close to) when he visits at Christmas.

I don't like if when I get a knock on my bedroom door from my family however, as I hate being disturbed in my room. I don't mind being spoken to if the door is open or I'm not in here, but in my room, I get tetchy and shout at them to get out if they try to open the door. Old teenage habit I still have...

I always make my brother open the door!
