what's your take on this situation?

Huh, that's funny. I actually went through an extremely similar situation:
I had this friend who lived in my building and we always got together and do drugs. He was a hardcore drug user (not an addict, more of the buddhist spiritual type) and we saw each other weekly, if not daily. One day, I go abroad on holidays for 3 months and while I was there, my brother (who lived with me in the same building and knew this friend of mine) gets angry at me and kicks me out, says I have 5 days to find a place and move out when I get back. When I come back, we have an argument and he severely beats me. I go to my friend's apartment to see how he's doing and tell him that I'm going to the police. He seems to be supportive.

Flash forward 2 weeks later, I try to get into contact with him and he says I should keep away and get my shït together (the message was very criptically typed, I figured he was high at the time). After that, he no longer replies nor pick up the phone.

I'm as confused as you, but I figure since both our friends have holistic, spiritual views, it may be the case that they choose to "keep away from the negative vibes"? As in, we seem to bring trouble with us and they don't want that in their lives.
