I had known about this parrot club in my area for years, and had gone to it several times before; then the club had sort of fell apart so there were no meetings for awhile until this past year someone decided to bring it back to life again.
I am always super anxious with being there because half of it is social time with everybody and their birds while the other half is filled with some sort of activity for us to do. They hold the meetings once a month trying to keep it on a Sunday evening and so I thought I'd like to go there again.
I went with my mom and there wasn't as many people there as I thought there would be, I guess that is to be expected since the club just re-opened again. Not many of the old members are aware of it yet. Anyway my triumph was that even though I didn't really say very much during the event(which is about 2hrs long) the fact that I attended the meeting was a step in itself. Anxiety got me for most of it, and I had someone's African Grey fly on my head while I was in the middle of an anxiety attack. That kind of helped snap me out of my mind a little lol
I had fun seeing other peoples' parrots there and I am going to make a point to go to every meeting I am able to attend regardless of how I feel. I am hoping I'll be able to bring my own bird with me to one of them in the future as well.
Mine needs some taming and training first, but he needs to be social just as much as I do. We don't get out very much haha :b
