I don't know if anyone's posted about this show before and this is a little late anyway, but why did NBC take The Black Donnellys off the air (besides to put The Real Wedding Crashers on instead - ugh)? Finally, a show that someone actually wrote and directed, instead of a stupid reality TV show, a million dollar game show, or some sort of a talent contest. I thought the show was well-written and well-acted, and I liked it. Then, after something like five episodes, it was gone.
I don't know if it's money or a lack of creativity, but it seems like TV people don't care anymore about putting out a decent product (and the public is allowing it by getting hooked with a bunch of crap). All they have to do is provide a stage and a camera crew, pay a stupid game show host or a panel of arrogant judges, and give some sort of a big prize that actually costs them less than producing something of any value; and then they let some idiots fight with each other or jump up and down without the need for any actors or scripts.
On one hand, in a culture in which celebrity magazine shows put the lives of actors and the famous above those of "ordinary people", I have thought that it was kind of good that ordinary people were given the chance to become "celebrities" through reality TV; but in "reality", the lives of these people merely become even more obnoxious than those of "true celebrities", and it occurs at the expense of creating something worthwhile.
Anyway, with regard to the Black Donnellys, did anybody watch it?
