I should know this one, but I can't seem to figure it out.

I have some programs that start up when I turn on my computer and it is slowing down the start up process. I don't want to completely remove the programs, but I don't want them to start when I turn on the computer. How can I change this?

Also, some computer program icons are in my taskbar. I've right-clicked on them and close them, but once I start up again, they're back. Again, I don't want to completely get rid of these programs, but I want them permanently removed from my taskbar. Can someone please help? It drives me crazy when I can't figure out something that I should already know.

Thanks for the help!

If you want to do it the geek way do this.

Click start->run->type "regedit"

You'll see an explorer like interface. Becarful while in Registry Editor as in don't delete random stuff obviously.

Next goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The values entered in that folder is everything set to run at startup. Basically, you would look through each value and determine what you would like to remove. When you find the executable file you don't want running at startup just delete the key via highlighting it and hitting Delete.

This manual way of doing things can be very helpful if you have a virus that runs at startup.
