I was reading in my psychology class about personality and why and how people develop their personalities.. Well it made me wonder what exactly causes SA because when I was younger it wasn't so bad.. I always blame my SA on my parents because I feel like they screwed up my childhood and they were never really there for me but I really don't know why I am the way I am.. What do you guys think causes SA? School, home, your parents, your peers,.. Or does it just happen.. Is it destiny??

My mother always used to tell me that she was very shy until she was 17. So growing up I thought that'd I'd automatically "get over it" around then. Clearly didn't happen. (I mentioned this in a previous post but) I went to a consultation for CBT recently and when I told her about my childhood she said as a kid I probably had "Selective Mutism" but it was not well known back then. I looked it up and it's exactly what it was! If only it had been recognized back then I could have beaten this a lot sooner.

But hey this is another thing to add to our positive list: We'll more aware and attentive mothers and get our children help at an early age if they need it.

3 cheers for us! :D
I know that's the good thing. That we are aware of it and we can help our future kids that may have this. My parents don't understand it so they will never help me with this and now that I know i have it, I can possibly prevent (if possible) my future kids from getting this. I will support them in every way I can..
