It is pretty dumb. Isn't every day technically after Labour Day? I mean, even the day before the next Labour Day is still after the previous Labour Day.

In the world of fashion, it's not considered a "Fall/winter" color.

It goes back to a time when people dressed more formally. It applied to men's suits and ladies dresses. White was only worn in the summer unless one lived in the tropics. It was more a rule for the rich since the majority of men might own a single suit used on Sundays as well as for weddings and funerals. While women might have a few dresses for everyday wear, they were seldom white because white is hard to keep clean.
