i am looking to upgrade to a 1KW+ power supply on my next upgrade, actually, just waiting for the new VGA cards to come around next year. looking for fully modular ones to decide on down the road for 3 VGA cards.

i think my power usage is high because i have all my stuff on at once, for more than a few days at a time. i only turn my pc off if i am going to be at work all day or away from home for extended periods of time.

It's what I have. I was a bit skeptical because of the brand and price, but jonnyGuru did a review on it and he liked it. As well, another member from Hardware Canucks (another forum I frequent) who does a lot of PSU testing himself said it was a pretty good unit.

Hello all are you interested in computers?
Very interested.

If you are what do you use it for?
Internet browsing, gaming, programming, music, keeping warm in the winter, etc..

What operating system do you use?
Mainly Windows 7 Professional, also dual-booting with Windows 8 developer preview, and have Ubuntu in a virtual machine which I use heavily for school projects.

are you happy with your pc/laptop? Not really. It's kinda on its last legs. The battery only lasts about half an hour, the backlight is showing these black bars on the screen, the mic is broken, the soldering on the gpu is defective so it fails sometimes, it doesn't come back from sleep mode so I have to shut it down all the time. It's just generally in bad shape. I can't wait til I get some money so I can dump it and get a nice Macbook Air or something.

do you know what's in your pc/laptop your specs?
Nothing too exciting. It's a Dell XPS m1530 with a 2.1Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of memory, 250gb hdd, and a Geforce 8600M GT.

are you getting the best use from your pc/laptop?

Well, I do alot of stuff with it, so I guess so, despite all the annoyances.

do you want to learn more about your computer or want/need any advice on upgrades or how to make your computer/laptop faster ?
As a computer science major and tech enthusiast I spend most of my time learning new things about computers. So yeah.

are you happy with your pc/laptop?

Pretty much. I don't think it's doing too bad for a 4-5 year old laptop tbh.

do you know what's in your pc/laptop your specs?

It's an Acer Aspire 7720Z with 160GB HDD, Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2310 (1.46GHz), 2GB DDR2, 17" LCD screen, DVD rewriter.

are you getting the best use from your pc/laptop?

do you want to learn more about your computer or want/need any advice on upgrades or how to make your computer/laptop faster?

Don't be cheap on the PSU, this'll be one of the only times I go against what Gunny says, and tell you to buy a good brand name PSU, that won't take your computer with it., my entire rig is run on a 620W Antec power supply.
