Hello, I'm Factmonger, Mongerer of facts and odd bits of interesting, yet oftentimes irrelevant bits of information.

I am posting this thread for the purpose of finding out YOU guyses (not a word, but we all know what I mean) favorite facts!

Here are some my favorites!

The almond is a member of the Peach family.

Silk worms are no longer found in the wild.

FDA regulations allow a certain amount of insect legs, rat hairs and mouse/roach droppings in products such as chocolate, berries and apple juice!

Did you know that if you tense every muscle in your body and hold your breath while counting to 10, when you relax, you will go into a deeper sleep than if you just lie down?
time for bed

FACT:Windmills in Ireland turn clockwise, while windmills everywhere else turn counter-clockwise.

Awesome fact: Birds are, in fact, dinosaurs. More specifically, birds are a group of theropod dinosaurshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur that evolved during the Mesozoic Era. That is my favorite little known fact.

Silly fact: You are more likely to be attacked by a cow than a shark. Maybe cow tipping should be an extreme sport.

Flamingos produce a red substance that they feed their young, which is called "milk" even though it isn't really milk in the traditional sense.

Also, flamingos are not naturally pink. They turn pink due to aqueous bacteria and beta carotene obtained from their food supply. :D

How about this....
The nursery rhyme Ring Around the Rosey is a rhyme about the plague.
Infected people with the plague would get red circular sores ("Ring around
the rosey..."), these sores would smell very badly so common folks would
put flowers on their bodies somewhere (inconspicuously), so that it would
cover the smell of the sores ("...a pocket full of posies..."), People
who died from the plague would be burned so as to reduce the possible
spread of the disease ("...ashes, ashes, we all fall down!")
