I think the title says it all, but it's an interesting question. It's something I've been thinking about for the last few days or so and has also prompted me to enter the lotto draw (although I know my chances are buckleys at winning, it's still my ticket to dream.)

Is it wrong for me to feel like my life is so boring and would be tonnes more exciting with the cash to do things?

For starters, I'd be travelling, then I'd be able to invest money and help people out to name but three of the many things I would do in such a situation.

What would you do?

It is an interesting question, but it gets asked a lot on here. I actually entered tonight's 40 million lotto drawing(which someone won unfortunately) and it was like a slap in the face. I picked three of the six numbers, but they were on two different plays, and I was off by one number on two of my other numbers. The only number that I wasn't close on was the powerball number. Sigh..Oh well. I don't think it's wrong. With cash you would be able to do things, but it wouldn't really change you unless you were able to buy some meds or get therapy.

I think that the money would bring me happiness. I would do everything I always wanted to do, but obviously I'd do it by myself seeing as I don't have a girlfriend or friends. I would go skydiving, go watch every nba game possible(obviously during the season), go shooting, go drag racing, build myself a muscle car, go to alaska, go to antarctica, go mountain biking, go to egypt, travel throughout south america, go to venice, learn photography, hire a professional trainer to help me with body building, get 2 dogs and 2 cats. The list is endless, but I want to do all this and to be honest, I don't know whether I'd be lonely or happy. Using my current life as a base I think I would be lonely living an amazing life without anyone to share it with, But then if I really was living that life I think I'd be pretty happy.

I'd be in Monaco, playing cards in the Monte-Carlo Casino, sipping Cristal from a golden cup, a high-priced Japanese escort sitting on my lap, while waiting for the opera to start. Hey, I can dream! :b

If I won the first thing I would do is call my supervisor and sing the Jefferson's opening song to him. Then I would give my house away to a needy family. Then I would buy a bunch of forest land and build a house in the middle of it like my dad is doing right now. I would be out there just taking pictures of the wildlife and enjoying the peace and quiet.

My luck I probably win it and we would have massive hyperinflation and only would be able to buy a loaf of bread with it. :lol

I would just throw it all into the bin/give it to some charity. Seriously. I mean, if i'm ever going to manage to achieve anything later in life, it just wouldn't feel as good to me personally. I would always put it down to me being rich.

What i really admire seeing, is people starting from the bottom and reaching high by pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. I would love to be that sort of person...

And no, i'm not rich. Far from it in fact.

But really, you never know until you are actually in that sort of situation yourself. So perhaps i'm just talking out of naivity...

I've thought about this so many times (gosh I must want to escape). First, I would buy my parent's home and allow them to retire. Then I'd buy myself a 1970s Boss 302 and a place for my sister and I. I'd be able to feel less pressure to finish school as soon as possible and I'd have the freedom to waste time and explore classes that sound actually interesting because I'd be the one paying for it. I'd also love to get involved with charities, especially ones that deal with human trafficking because that stuff is revolting and no child should be put through that.

I love this question =)

First I would go home and buy presents for everyone in my family. I'd send my dad to Europe, I'd pay for my brothers' educations, send my mom on a vacation. We would all spend a Christmas in Germany too.

I'd start a foundation for alternative medicine research, I'd quit my job and bike across America, I'd hire a personal chef to cook healthy organic meals for me, I'd buy a Steinway and take lessons..... life would be good.

Oooh. Well I'd like to travel the world but I would only go if I had someone to go with so I'd pay for one or more of my relations to come. If they don't want to, I can buy me some friends lol. Actually I'd probably be too scared anyway and just stay here but I'd buy a nice small house in this village or the town, I'd buy houses for my brother and sister who don't own one. I'd pay off my student loans and all my family members' debts if they wanted me to. I might pay for them to go on holiday too. And then I'd buy a huuuuuge bit of land somewhere, probably not this country as there's no room, and then build my own little village hehe. And I'd pay for a personal trainer for many hours per day to make me get off my butt.

But mostly I would probably still be sat at a computer, lonely and depressed. Money would be niceeeeeee as it would mean I wouldn't be worrying about going to work tomorrow (*woe*). But it wouldn't be happiness for me I don't think.

I get really excited when I think of this only to have to come back to reality, but it's still nice to dream. I don't really know where to begin. First, I'd probably take the money and invest it in some offshore account so that I wouldn't have to pay any taxes. Well, I suppose they tax you after you win, but I'd still prefer to keep it in an offshore account. I don't even know where to go from there.
Best of luck to all of you who have entered to win all that money! I would be really happy if you guys would get lucky!

Ultimately money cannot buy happiness BUT what it can buy is freedom, something I would love to have. I would quit my job, hell I am not even sure I would call them, I would just stop showing up. :lol My husband would quit his job. We could then travel Europe as we have always dreamed, going wine tasting in Italy and beer tasting in Germany and seeing beautiful vistas all over the world. I would keep enough so that I would never have to worry about money, set up funds for the kids, and give the rest to charities like Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude's Hospital etc.

You already buy modest amounts of silver I know. Imagine all the precious metals you could buy with $50M! I hear that silver is available in 1,000 ounce bars (a bit over 60 pounds).

There is a paradox in investing. The more money you have the more risk you can afford to take, yet the more money you have the less need you have to take risk in search of higher expected returns. If Bill Gates lost 99% of his money he'd still be richer than 99.9%+ of the population, so he can clearly afford to take risk, yet he certainly has no need to take any as he already has far more than anybody could spend in a lifetime.

The argument for holding hard assets like gold become stronger as you get into the land of the truly rich. Gold and other hard assets have an expected real return of 0%. After all, inflation is defined as the rate at which physical things go up in value -- and things would include gold, silver, and land. Though physical things remain even if paper money is rendered worthless due to hyperinflation, which has happened to plenty of currencies that today are worthless except as historical collector's items.

Probably drinking sangria in Spanin with my lover. Oh, yeah, I'd be rich enough to not have SA, hence the lover. ;)

I would get myself an apartment in New York. Travel all across the US from Coast to Coast. Travel to Australia, the UK. Buy myself a blue shiny metallic Honda. Go on a shopping spree to H&M. Send my parents on a trip that they never had, give my sister a plane ticket to a hot destination. Give my other sister and her family a trip to Disney World. Pay for my nieces to go to a Jonas Brother concert and my other niece to go to a Justin Timberlake Concert. I would invest some of it into investments so that I could live on the interest. Give to some charities for group homes. Purchase some sheets for shelters, socks, toothbrushes. (Things that I wish that I could do, but can't do right now).

First, I'd quit my job and tell off one of my supervisors that I really hate. Then I'd either go traveling or finish up school not sure in which order. Then I'd buy a house. I'd help out some family members and donate some. Umm, that's about it.
