Ok, so I've been through CBT, over a good number of years which initially did help but long term isn't proving very useful. So my doc wants me to try psychotherapy but I've been waiting since august last year to see psychologist, is this normal to be waiting this long?

I bring the subject up to my doc and I'm told there is just a long waiting list..:roll

It depends on the doctor and whether he is taking new clients. I only waited about 6-8 weeks for my current one.

arth67: The benefits of CBT have been shown by studies to decrease over a period as short as months; people also differ in their response to treatment. Your last line is being extremely presumptuous about the OP. It is perfectly valid to try different therapy options if the recommended one is not effective enough.
