hello

As far as I am aware, I do not have social anxiety disorder, but I am unbearably shy + awkward + get anxious etc (even shyer than someone I used to know who did experience S.A.D)

I need help and therapy seems like a valid option, so could someone please recommend me a worthwhile therapist in or near London?

alternatively, I would also be very grateful to be informed of other potentially successful methods for resolving my issue.

thank you

Try Toastmasters. Learning public speaking will make you more outgoing. I don't think therapy will help.

I think being very shy qualifies as social anxiety disorder.
What you describe sounds like what I went through. I
don't know of any London therapists to recommend,
so I can't help with that. I did primal therapy and that
helped tremendously to the point where it's no longer
a problem.

I too used to think I was JUST EXTREMELY SHY-but I do have social anxiety since I was a very small child. Social anxiety means that you get anxiety in a specific or many specific social situations and that anxiety keeps you from being able to be yourself or do what you really want to do.

I don't live anywhere near London, but I would suggest finding a good psychologist who has experience with social anxiety. Wishing you the best.

What is primal therapy?
Primal therapy is a form of psychotherapy which concentrates on
the expression of feelings to heal psychic wounds from past events,
for the most part from childhood.
Originated by Arthur Janov, who has written many books on the
theory of how this therapy works: http://www.primaltherapy.com/

Primal gets to the source of a problem like social anxiety by working
with feelings. Most other therapies represent ways of coping or
suppressing the problem. Primal therapy is a non conventional
therapy which hasn't received wide acceptance. But this does
not at all reflect it's effectiveness.
