Started college recently, was pretty nervous about the whole thing, but it turned out OK. We were basically told to talk to new people. I talked to one girl, who seemed friendly and I managed to hold a fairly long conversation. Later we did the same thing, so I talked to another girl, who seemed friendly as well. I also managed to start another short conversation with her later outside of class, and didn't feel anxious at all. It turned out the second girl is in none of my classes, but I am still proud of myself for managing to talk to two new people (particularly girls as I find that more difficult), and I'm hoping college will continue to go well! :)

Wow congrats! And also thanks for the post, I'm starting school again soon and I'm FREAKING out... This gave me a lil hope! Congrats that's a very big step, at least for me it is...
Make sure you try and start socialising on the first day, it's more and more difficult the longer you go, and it's a lot easier onthe first day for me anyway.

Congrats :) , I actually did the same thing today and it wasn't so bad (with one girl, but it's better than nothing lol). Hopefully this becomes a trend ;)
