................What if Julius Caesar (or any other well known historical figure)

had social anxiety disorder?

--Do you think he would have avoided making public appearances?
--Stayed home instead of giving that important speech he had to give?
--Given a fake note "signed by his mother" pretending that he injured his ankle to avoid going into battle?

My friends in high school thought it was funny once - if Merc became President, what would he do? Hide in his room and avoid giving speeches? Hahaha.

I told them, "HOW THE **** COULD I EVER BECOME PRESIDENT BEING AS PAINFULLY SHY AS I AM?"

So Julius Casear would not have been himself if he had SA. Just not him.

Joan of Arc - well, I could could see her religiously crusading even with SA.

A lot of well known historical figures had social anxiety and even Asperger's.

Einstein
Oppenheimer
Most US presidents (T. Jefferson was terribly shy)

So that's that.

Scientists, yes. Writers, definitely yes.

Didn't know TJ had SA, but it couldn't have been horribly incapacitating.

A lot of actors are very shy, though.

What about Joan Van Ark?

I just think, we SAD people have to deal with social media and the modern pressure to "keep up with the Joneses Kardashians".
Did the Puritans avoid congregating at church?
Did African kings fear the thought of having a lavish wedding?
Did Tibetan monks absolutely adore the vow of silence?
And so on...

If they were a politician they I doubt they would have come to power if they had SAD. I don't think it would have made that much difference to writers and inventors and these sort of people.

SA is fine for a writer. Not that that means much. There were many artists who even had schizophrenia.

There's a lot of people out there in history with SA, GAD, ASD's, PD's, etc...Writers, Scientists, Artists, the hidden genius out there inspired by the slight insanity. I once saw a quote from Vincent Van Gogh, something about it being no secret that artists were mentally ill, and he accepted that he was insane. Unfortunatley, it didn't actaully end well for him. He shot himself in the chest. Inspiring.

But yeah, If you google it, there's a lot historical figures being mentally ill. The ones I see are Lincoln, Roosevelt, Issac Newton, Van Gogh, etc.
