I don't post very often, mostly "lurk" - but I was wondering if anyone has taken this drug for major depression/SA? My doc has just added this to my Celexa (40mg) and Topomax (for migraines) after trying Abilify w/o success (that made me feel like I was going to jump out of my skin most of the time). Savella is used for fibromyalgia, but is also indicated for depression.

I have sufferred from depression/SA/agoraphobia (if your intersted in labels) for over 13 years now - I have tried about every SSRI out there and suggested that he prescribe a MAOI, but he suggested I try this first because he had some patients that were resistant to the typical SSRI's have some success with Savella....

Any comments would be appreciated

I really don't understand why your doctor/Pdoc prescribed you Abilify, it has no use in the treatment of depression or SA. Combining Celexa with Milnacipran (Savella) also doesn't make too much sense as Savella inhibits serotonin reuptake as Celexa does, so one could substitute the Celexa with an equivalent dose of Savella.

Nevertheless Savella can work really good in cases of depression where people have very low energy (and somatic symptoms/pain). I'm sorry to say that in my opinion it's not a good choice for people who have anxiety, because of all the norepinephrine it could make the SA even worse.

We've found something we agree on. I tried Abilify for 3 months several years ago and it didn't help at all. I think part of the appeal is the "anything but a benzo" aspect. Docs are thrilled to throw the whole damn pharmacy at patients as long as it's not a controlled substance.

Here in the US Abilify is being heavily marketed in TV ads as a way to augment SSRIs that have failed to fully relieve depression symptoms.

Might cost the manufacturer some 100 million dollars if the FDA decides they have no right to market this med that way.

Does anyone get any benefit from Savella and using it for anxiety?
