love the final fantasy series, especially 7 and 9. i'm also into the persona (shin megami tensei) series- i enjoy the social sim aspect of the game intertwined with more traditional turn based combat.

never really got into diablo, or that style of game, so i can't really help you there...

If you're looking for a diablo like game, then give Titan Quest a try. It's a diablo clone and it's actualy pretty damn good too.

Sacred is another diablo like game.

love them but haven't played any in awhile, last rpg I beat was parasite eve on ps1, would like to get back into shadow hearts and play valkyrie profile 2. I also need to finish persona 3 and beat the other current megaten games I haven't beat yet and catch up.

Nice, they are my faves too. Although i also enjoyed ff12.

I really enjoyed Mass Effect. Thats a different kind of game, but i like choosing what to say to characters and watching their reactions!

If a game has a good story, good characters and decent interaction i like it. I guess it makes up for my lack of socialising :(

Oh yeah, huge RPG fan here. Well, more like BioWare fan to be exact. I never really got into the whole isometric old school style, but once I tried KotOR, I was totally hooked. I know KotOR and especially Jade Empire and Mass Effect are very much simplified, but for me it's all about the story and immersion anyway. I did just download Neverwinter Nights though, just to see if I can appreciate a more traditional RPG.

Lately I've realized that this is one of the few genres in which I can find any sort of lasting pleasure. There are some great shooters and other types of games out there, but not many of them are worth beating more than once or twice. Take Assassin's Creed. Gorgeous visuals, great atmosphere and environment, exciting gameplay, decent story apart from the ending...in short, a great game. But now that I've beaten it and the mystery is gone, there's nothing to bring me back to it. Not so with RPGs. When I was done with KotOR, I immediately started a new character. Same with Mass Effect. They just suck you in.

Baldur's Gate 2/Planescape torment are a very good story driven game. There's so much text in choices to make. Every role playing game should use those games as example to create their own storyline. Make a game like oblivion with a good story a la baldur's gate/Planescape and you got one of the best game ever made right there.

for those who dont mind dated graphics give fallout(fallout 2 also) a try.
you will see how empty and dull fallout 3 is in comparison(not counting the graphics here, but story) Fallout 3 beats Fallout in graphic(obviously) but the original fallout put the new gen fallout to shame with it's storyline and gameplay.

finally some good RPG games! the graphics are better in fallout 3 but i liked the look of the original fallout games much better, it had a much more desolate feeling to it. fallout 3 was way too cramped for a post-apocalyptic setting.
