im not sure if its called stanard 401k but the 'regular' 401k is not taxed until you take out the money. the roth is taxed right away. at retirement, wouldnt you receive more money with the roth 401k than the standard 401k? the dollar amount taken out in taxes is going to be greater when i retire in 30 years than it would be if they take out the taxes right now no?

Yes, Roth IRAs are fantastic. That is why the government limits the amount you can put in a Roth IRA. I believe it to be 5,000 annually.

However, there is something new called the Roth 401K though I will admit I know next to nothing about it. My employer requires that I use their company for my 401K.

The real person to ask about this is Karl when he returns, or you can try to email him.
