About the ENTP
Expert Quotes & Links

"ENTPs are idea people. Their perceptive abilities cause them to see possibilities everywhere. They get excited and enthusiastic about their ideas, and are able to spread their enthusiasm to others. In this way, they get the support that they need to fulfill their visions"
- Portrait of an ENTP (The Personality Page)

"It is so natural for these individuals to practice devising gadgets and mechanisms, that they start doing it even as young children. And they get such a kick out of it that they really never stop exercising their inventive bent"
- The Portrait of the Inventor Rational (Keirsey)

"ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their often-impressive skills... argument as a sport."
- ENTP Profile (TypeLogic)
"ENTPs contribute an innovative, versatile, and enterprising approach to work. They view limitations as challenges to be overcome and look for new ways to do things. They need to find a niche for themselves in order to be free to maneuver. They prefer the start-up phase of a project rather than the followthrough or maintenance phase. Once the project is designed, they prefer to turn it over to someone else."
- ENTP - The Innovator (Lifexplore)

"...attention seeking, experience junky, insensitive, adaptable, not easily offended, messy, carefree, dangerous, fearless, careless..."
- Jung Type Descriptions (ENTP) (similarminds.com)

Fits me perfectly, especially the "not easily offended" and pretty much all the highlighted traits (I'm not sure about arguing, only if it isn't serious).

um...I think I'll try the test again when I'm not so tired. I mean seriously, engineer??????? Wow! Maybe I picked the wrong major in college. I think my answers depend on what mood I'm in and what situations come to mind, like if I'm thinking about my behavior around my parents vs. co-workers vs. classmates etc. Maybe the fact that I'm even analyzing this so much is the reason why I got put into this category.

Seems like some of the numbers were close to 50/50. I always end up being in the middle in all of these personality tests. Except why am I so introverted on this test? That's weird cause I took another and it said 50/50 extraverted/introverted.

I'm kinda disappointed I didn't get artist or originator...but I like being considered an "intellectual". It's a nice title acually:) "Alohomora the intellectual".

Hmmm only three extroverts on the forum. I hope you guys were answering according to your personality and not just how you act b/c of SA. But maybe it is easier for introverted ppl to get SA? Although I know extroverted ppl can get it too, maybe it is not as frequent. What do you think?

I think the introverted / extroverted section is skewed because of the SAD, for I feel that I am actually extroverted but trapped by the SAD.

Yeah, I've been telling ppl to answer according to what they prefer in life, whether to interact with a lot of ppl and be social or keep more to themselves. I am more extroverted than introverted and I have always felt really lonely/bored without frequent interaction with ppl. Some ppl don't need that much interaction even if they don't have SA.

I'm not surprised at the number of introverted people. Studies have shown two personality traits, introversion and neuroticism are associated with shyness and social anxiety. I think that they predispose you to developing SA. Same as a person with high blood pressure is at higher risk of having heart problems. Maybe extroverted people with sa can function better in society or use drugs/alcohol to cope vs seeking out treatment or support.

sociallyunacceptable, it seems to me like SA really does change things, though. A big part of the difference between introversion and extraversion is a matter of energy. If you're introverted, you tend to feel drained by social interaction, whereas extraverts gain energy. That being the case, it seems inevitable that people with SA will be more "drained" since they're feeling so much anxiety, and thus also be less extraverted as a personality trait.

Personally I think you have to answer the questions as you are today. If you have always been nervous or uncomfortable in social situations, then how would you know if you would prefer to meet new people or work with a team vs working alone? I think most people would prefer to be on the extroverted side because that fits better with Western Culture, that doesn't mean they would be if they overcame SA. I think it really effects your personality and until you start to overcome it you don't know what your preferences will eventually be or what things you may or may not enjoy doing.

INFJ - The "Confidant"

INFJs, making up an estimated 1% of all people, are the most rare type (males even more so). They are introspective, caring, sensitive, gentle and complex people that strive for peace and derive satisfaction from helping others. INFJs are highly intuitive, empathetic and dedicated listeners. These traits tend to act as a "tell me what's wrong" sign on their forehead, hence the nicknames Confidant, Counselor or Empath. INFJs are intensely private and deeply committed to their beliefs.

"INFJs are gentle, caring, complex and highly intuitive individuals. Artistic and creative, they live in a world of hidden meanings and possibilities. Only one percent of the population has an INFJ Personality Type, making it the most rare of all the types."
- Portrait of an INFJ (The Personality Page)

"INFJs enjoy a greater clarity of perception of inner, unconscious processes than all but their INTJ cousins. Just as SP types commune with the object and "live in the here and now" of the physical world, INFJs readily grasp the hidden psychological stimuli behind the more observable dynamics of behavior and affect."
- INFJ Profile (TypeLogic)

"creative, smart, focus on fantasy more than reality, attracted to sad things, fears doing the wrong thing, observer, avoidant..."
- INFJ Jung Type Descriptions (similarminds.com) "...desire to contribute to the welfare of others and genuinely enjoy helping their companions. Although Counsleors tend to be private, sensitive people, and are not generally visible leaders, they nevertheless work quite intensely with those close to them, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes..."
- The Portrait of the Counselor Idealist (Keirsey)

Some of this is scarily accurate. That was a really cool test. Thanks to whoever found it :)

"INFPs never seem to lose their sense of wonder. One might say they see life through rose-colored glasses. It's as though they live at the edge of a looking-glass world where mundane objects come to life, where flora and fauna take on near-human qualities."

Hey, I'm INFP as well!

INFP - The "Dreamer"
Jungian Personality Types (Free Test)

Their job must be fun, although not racous, and it must be meaningful to them. They need a strong purpose in their work. They want to be recognized and valued, without undue attention given to them. They may become embarrassed when make the center of attention. As a result, they may undersell their strengths in order to avoid being singled out and made to feel conspicuous. They would rather have their worth be noticed gradually over time.
