Why is the word "dictionary" in the dictionary? If you knew to use the dictionary to look it up, then you obviously know what a dictionary is and what it is used for. And the word is on the front of dictionary, so you wouldn't need to look it up to see how to spell it.

Have you ever noticed how many people complain about the cold in winter and say they wish it was summer year round, but when summer rolls around they complain it's too hot?

Why does the bank charge you money for not having any money?

Could a wadded up piece of paper be considered an origami boulder?

Why do new cars go down thousands of dollars in value as soon as you drive them off the lot? Honestly, how much damage could you do to the car the first week without it being noticable?

Apparently early dictionaries didn't have common words that it was assumed everybody already knew. It was sometime later that the Powers That Be decided that EVERY word has to be in the dictionary. The unabridged dictionary, anyway.
