Random Thoughts and Observations You Had Today

What Are You Thinking About Right Now? and Random Thought of The Day were recently merged because of how similar they were. I don’t think many people saw a difference between them, but some people might think of one as being for your current thought and one as being for a random thought you had that day.

I’m making this to replace Random Thought of The Day in a way that makes it more different to What Are You Thinking About Right Now? and it is in Just For Fun.

If you thought something weird/random like “I wonder how many drops of water it takes to fill a bath“ or “Why don’t rolls of wrapping paper have a little metal cutter like rolls of foil?” you can post it here. :)

So I was in Costco the other day and happened to walk by the Bose bluetooth headphones they have there. I made the mistake of putting them on. So much more comfortable than the ones I have it was like night and day. Especially since I got new glasses, my headphones have been squishing the hell out of my right ear (maybe it's slightly bigger than my left or something). No amount of adjusting the glasses or the headphones helps.

Anyway, I was kind of wanting the Bose ones but then later I did a little research and I think you need the Bose app to use the ANC. Which pretty much ruins the whole idea of them for me because I only use my headphones with my Windows PC. I thought ANC was built into headphones and you just have to press a button but it seems like Bose needs to be different. Probably most of the price is for the ANC so I guess that's a no go.

I'm considering trying to mod my Jlab ones with some more comfortable pads off of Amazon but I worry about ruining them because I have no idea how to get the pads off of them or whether or not I'd be able to get them back on. They don't seem to be made to be taken apart. So I would only risk it if I had a pair I like better or if the pads completely fell apart. The only reason I'm so dedicated to the Jlab ones is I already have them and the battery life is 50+ hours and the sound quality is perfectly acceptable. Anything else I could afford, I'd be taking a big chance on sound quality.
Sigh.

I should have known better but I tried to cheap out and bought some JBL bluetooth headphones today. I made the same damn stupid mistake I always make with headphones. I bought them sight unseen. They didn't have any on display and the box was sealed with one of those alarm things on it so I couldn't even open them up and look at them first.

I could sort of see the earcups because there's a clear plastic bit on the box. The earpads looked pretty big from that angle but I could only see the back. No matter what, I always try to get over the ear headphones because I hate hate hate having my ears smashed. And somehow, I just always end up with the kind of headphones that either claim to be over the ear or seem to aspire to be.....but aren't.

And these ones, of course, sit right the hell on my ears and smash the crap out of them. So I'm in that mode right now where I'm trying to deny that I screwed up. I wore them for a few hours just to see how sore my ears would be when I took them off. I was thinking maybe I'll get used to them or something. But I know there's no such luck. I'll be hating myself for it if I don't take them back. They do sound better than the Jlab ones but if I'm gonna have my ears smashed anyway, I might as well keep the old ones

It's kind of a shame. If the earcups were just a little wider on the inner holes, they'd be perfect. These things must be made for kids. My ears are kinda big but I'd say they're probably on the medium range of average sized. There's no way these things were made to fit most adults. I'm really starting to wish my ears were smaller. I'd look like a mouse but I'd have a much easier time buying headphones.

It's always a bit odd to have everyone being home and staying in on a Friday night.

Well, the guy I saw three times for a short time ended up coming to my house and that was fun. Perfect night for it.
We got thunder snow, pretty cool

I never liked raisin bran growing up. It's just odd to eat shriveled grapes in basically a milk soup. I did like all other cereals however.
I used to work as a teaching assistant for a disability center. One year during summer school, there was a high school student there with autism. She would often repeat things over and over. One day, she was sitting next to me during her lunchtime and she said "You're quiet! You're quiet! You're quiet!..." Over and over and over again like a broken record. I told her yes, some people are quiet. However she would not stop perseverating on it. I was a bit annoyed and wanted her to stop, but I know she really couldn't help repeating things. Eventually she stopped saying it after about 5 minutes 😅

Random memories like this just pop into my head sometimes.

Oh man. I loved that stuff! Post was the one I liked best. I was weird like that. I also loved Crispix (my favorite plain cereal of all time). Lucky Charms and Cocoa Pebbles were the only really sugary ones I liked.
I'm starting to think the supermarket sends my wife dented cans as some sort of punishment for wanting the most obscure kind of beans known to man. (Borlotti)

I (of course) then have to go and try to find them on the shelf to get a good one because the dented ones are no good.

Botulism free beans can only be had in non-obscure brands.

It seems that it was my VPN causing SAS to be blocked. I turned it off and tried and it worked. Then I turned it back on and it's still working. Easy enough to deal with.

Crispix was awesome! Almost like chex cereal but not as rough and hard as some chex squares. I loved corn pops growing up and golden grahams. It feels like meals were less complicated back then. At least breakfast.

I wonder why kids are never called “chids.” It would make sense because it is more similar to “child.”

The pollen is back on my car but still looks better than before when it had all the mud on the tires.

A mate of mine has the same problem with getting his books sent off once he's sold them. He also has a problem with loading them onto the database we use. (or the one I should be using) He hires some kid and pays her 50 bucks an hour to do it for him. No way I'm doing that. I just need to get my act together.

I used to use Abe Books in the place I used to work. The store manager's Uncle had a 2nd book store next door, but they weren't online at the time. So would we get stock through to sort online and to use it as a price guide.

That's interesting mate - I didn't know you were in the book trade. Yes, Abebooks is fantastic - I used to sell on there years ago. I need to get my act together and start loading my books on the database but for some reason I seem to have a mental block about it - I find it hard to get started. I'm relatively okay with placing ads on Ebay so I should be okay eventually.

A lot of book collectors use it and my sales would increase - my friend has been doing very well and he hardly even has any books on there. Only a hundred or two.
