Imagine someone who's socially anxious, fairly lazy, and not that bright who can install and run software and poke around on the internet but doesn't understand the inner workings of a computer, bit torrents, wi-fi, and other stuff pretty much everybody seems to take for granted these days. What would be the best way for him to learn these things?

EDIT: Sorry I re-read your post and realize I totally misunderstood what you were asking. Here's some helpful resources:

Torrents and file-sharing in general:

http://www.slyck.com/ (several how-to's.. look at top where it says "guides")
http://www.filesharer.info (a few how-to's on more advanced topics)
http://filesharingtalk.com/ (great source for general file-sharing info)

Computer tech related that should be useful:

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/how-to-tech/build-a-computer.htm (how to build a PC, it's easier than you think!)

http://www.techtutorials.info/netwireles.html (basic and advanced info on networking, wifi, etc)

If you got any questions regarding any of these topics I'll do my best to help. As far as torrents go, I'd suggest looking into Usenet; those links above have a bunch of tutorials for it too. It's far safer than BitTorrent IMHO. Easynews.com is great for newbies just starting out.

there are lots of tech forums that could help you with these things, as this is all simple stuff and you could get the response you need within a mater of minutes. A quick google search can point you in many directions, just about any support site will do for these things.

Think of something you want to know about computers. Use Google to figure it out.

For example, I learned a lot about computer networking with a couple of spare computers, Linux (free!), some packet capture software (free!), Google (free!), and a few books from the library (free!).

Alternately...

Think of something you want to do with your computer. Use Google to figure out how to do it.
