How likely would it be for a general practitioner to prescribe valium for me? I need something I can use only when necessary.

Mine prescribed it to me for that exact reason, to take only on certain occasions when required. Has been a godsend because it enables me to enter my feared situations and if I feel a panic attack or severe anxiety coming on and I feel I cannot prevent it I take valium and it completely rids me of my anxious feelings and I am able to enjoy the rest of the occasion.

It's certainly within the realm of realistic possibility since you only need it once in a while. Though docs love Klonopin today. Valium is a household name and has a bad reputation from being handed out like candy 30 years ago, even though there is nothing intrinsically bad about Valium that makes it worse than other benzos.
