My regular expression is unhappy and people tend to think I am mad. Are there exercises you can do to make yourself look happier and approachable?

Rub magnesium oil on your face. It will relax the muscles in your face thus giving a neutral relaxed facial expression. This is a trick I use.

I have the same problem!!
When I was in school, the other students wouldn't talk to me because I looked mean.
I even heard this girl say, 'no I don't want to ask her, she looks like she's gonna murder me'

I guess just practice smiling in the mirror, know what it feels like and try to replicate that when you can.
Do the same for frowning too so you know when your looking unapproachable.

Thank you, both. The magnesium oils is interesting to me. I have been soaking in Epsom salts for the magnesium, and it does help me feel more relaxed. I also have been practicing in a mirror. It seems to be working for me. I've had more positive interactions with people lately.

I can relate - I look so unapproachable that most people give me a wide berth. If a co-worker comes to our department to ask a question, I am the last person they will come to. Even if it's some report I've written they will go to someone else to seek clarification on it - hell, I must really sit there looking like I'm about to rip someone's head off :|

"why do you look so mad" "Be happy and smile" I hear this a lot from extroverted douch*ags.
When I used to make the effort to go out and socialise this is what I would always used to hear too. I couldn't just sit there contented and taking everything in, nooooooo that simply wasn't good enough - I also had to constantly look like I was having a blast. It was just too exhausting, so I eventually stopped bothering to go to anything.

Same here. I have what I like to call a "Resting B**** Face" I am just not approachable. Which isn't totally a bad thing. I don't know how I would react if a random person just came up to me to talk. I've had numerous people tell me "I thought you hated me when I met you." or, "I always thought you were always mad."
