... how exactly to go about creating links on this board. Like this: Link so that, instead of the web address appearing in the message, a short link appears instead. Yes, the system has done what I wanted it to do in this message, but that doesn't mean that I know how it works! For the dummy "link" above, I typed in the URL tags, typed in the following web address: http://..., typed Link, then typed in the URL again.

As far as I can tell, you can't use copy and paste for this. Pasting the web address into the message, then adding the URL tags and name of the link doesn't work. Creating the whole thing in a Word file, then pasting it into the message doesn't work either.

:fall

Does the whole thing (url tag, lengthy web address, name of link, url tag) seriously have to be typed into the message letter by letter every time you want to create a short link?

Simply do what you did before but instead of the http thing just copy and past the web address, like I can link to this thread buy coping the web address (http://www.socialanxietysupport.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=998968) and then putting it into the code you wrote:

Link

If you quote this post you can see exactly how it is written. Hope that helps.

No, I can't see how it is written. I just see the web address underlined and the word "Link" underlined.

If I:
  • click on the codes icon
  • change the codes to URL
  • add the equals sign, the second square bracket and the word "Link" between the two brackets
  • paste in the web address for this thread
I get this:
Link

Yes, it has worked! Thanks! :)

1) Type the text that you would like to be your link. For example, copy and paste the below text into a new reply that you can test:
2) Scroll over "Click here" so it is highlighted. This step is important because the text must be highlighted when the link box pops up for any of this to work.

3) Copy the address of the web site you want to link to (usually found in the browser bar where you enter web addresses) to your clipboard. For this example, we will use the Wikipedia entry on Canada:
----
Help for copying and pasting: To copy and paste for links you can highlight the address you want to copy (in the browser bar), right click on the highlighted text, and select copy. To paste it somewhere, select the "http://" the normally appears when you click on the link button (
), right click on it and select paste (the address you want to copy must already be copied onto the clipboard).
----

4) Using the above techniques, paste the address into the box that appears when you click on the link button and click "OK".

5) Click "Submit Reply" or "Preview Post" to test it out. You should now have a link that looks like this:
----

Edit: I see you already figured it out. I guess I have reading problems. Glad it worked for you anyway. :)
