I can't tell if you mean panicky feelings from SA or panic disorder.
I never have experienced feelings that have been as intense as what is described as a full-blown panic attack. When I do get panicky feelings from whatever (not necessarily SA), they typically subside within the hour, unless the cause persists or will take place again within a few days or so (anticipatory anxiety that is sometimes beyond my consciousness).
As it stands now, my experience fits closest to #1, although I'm not always anxious.
