Only a few monts after he told congress that he didn't use steriods, he gets suspended for 10 games for failing a steroids test... tisk tisk tisk

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro was suspended 10 days Monday following a positive test for steroids, less than five months after the Baltimore Orioles first baseman emphatically told Congress: ``I have never used steroids. Period.''

The 40-year-old Palmeiro became the highest-profile player among the seven who have failed a test under the toughened major league policy that took effect in March, rules criticized by Congress as not being stringent enough.
I'm only a casual baseball fan, but I've always liked Palmeiro and it is a shame to see that he was doing stuff. It seriously tarnishes his career. He will easily get into the Hall, but I'm afraid this is what people are going to remember about him.

As an orioles fan this is absolutely crushing. Personally, i suspected Sosa much more than I ever suspected Raffy. :(

It's bad enough that we're playing some of the worst baseball in the league at the moment, and trying to turn things around. This absolutely sucks. It probably officially drops what little morale our team had off the face of the earth. It pretty much ends what began as a great season. Personally, I always suspected Sosa to be involved...but never Raffy. He's been too consistent over his career, and he's always been so much smaller than the rest of the "suspected" ones. (Sosa, McGwire, Giambi, etc)

I wonder if they're still planning on honoring him for his 3000'th hit in august?, or if that celebration is off....It's a sad sad day for the fans :rain

How can he be so stupid as to keep taking steroids after the league started testing? If he had retired a few weeks ago when he got his 3,000th hit, he would have been a HOFer, but now I doubt he will be.
If i had to guess, it would be that he's "addicted" to the effects. Possibly using them for his entire career, he thought that he couldn't perform without them.........Either that, or it was a terrible mistake with taking something he thought was NOT banned, but it actually was?

I heard Jose Canseco wrote him down in his book that he was taking steroids. if Jose was right about Palmeiro taking steroids, he's probably right about everyone else he mentioned in his book.

I don't think he was intentionally taking steroids. It must of been in something else he was taking and he didn't know it.
I would be a little more understanding to that if he weren't a pro athlete, but he is. I find it hard to believe that somebody who makes a living by keeping his body in shape wouldn't know every single thing that he was putting into it.

I wouldn't go that far, but I'm sure there is a lot more truth in that book then everyone thinks. Still, it doesn't make me respect Canseco any more. I guess he figures if he goes down, hes gonna take everyone with him and make a little money doin' it.

Well, Palmeiro was the biggest name so far to get caught with steroids by far, but are any more on the way?

And isn't he getting investigated right now for perjury when he testified in front of congress before the baseball season?
