I used to have that problem too. I would be so nervous I would be completely concentrating on that instead of what the other person is saying. In order to get rid of that, just really focus on what the other person is saying instead of how nervous you feel. People love talking about themselves, so you can ask plenty of questions (i.e. if they mention that they like to dance, you can ask what kind of dancing they like to do). It is not intrusive at all. If you start focusing on what the other person is saying, the nervous, ackward feeling will disappear.
