So my boss went to talk to me today and offered me a promotion to Project Manager on one of the projects we are working on. The current one is going to retire within a year...

Instead of being happy, I felt apprehensive, worried, and shocked. All the people elements of being a PM, having to manage people, make presentations. Everything a person with SA dreads.

I told him that this would be such a huge change and jump from my current position, and that I would have to think about it....and that i'd get back to him

please accept your promotion.
this will be a good opportunity to stretch your comfort zone and move upwards. Never be complacent. It will require much more out of you but your boss thinks you can handle the work. It will be a good opportunity for you

I know what the right decision is, yet its just the fear and overthinking/overanalyzing of everything. bleh

If I were you I would take it.

For me I would find it harder to turn my boss down then to deal with the new circumstances.

It is a sign that somebody believes in you and your abilities, and obviously it means a lot to your boss to have asked you in the first place. And like somebody else has said this is an excellent opportunity to really challenge yourself, so do consider it.
