So I went to a doctor, I guess this is my new doctor since I finally decided to see one.

Anyway, we went over the basics and I mentioned I have anxiety and I mentioned it a few times. I've never been to a doc about my personal health.. so I was fishing around hoping she'd tell me something or recommend something.

Next thing I know she says.. "xanax I'm prescribing.. .25mg once a day before bed." Okay. I never have taken any meds so I accept this.

Anyway I take one before bed and don't notice much, however I do feel a tad less anxious the next day. I decided to skip a night dose and take one the next day before an immanent anxious situation and it worked fairly well for me.

Is my doc trying to slowly work me into xanax or is there some reason to take it only at bed? I never mentioned sleep problems.

Maybe so, but its odd. Its suppose to be taken just before a social situation or during the onset of a panic attack. Not sure what its half life is but I would agree it won't do you much good well into the next day.

Can't help against anxiety the next day. If she just wants to test if you tolerate the drug it would have been nice if she told you: "At this time the medication won't help you in any way with your anxiety problems, I'm just testing how you react to the drug." A little bit weird.

I have a job where I operate a company vehicle so maybe that's a reason she doesn't want me taking it during the day? I don't even know if that's a problem with my company or the DOT. Would that be considered DUI if on xanax while driving?

They don't have a DUI test for Xanax, obviously driving while on it can be dangerous. But the effect varies from person to person. I was given some before my vasectomy procedure to ease the anxiety and I noticed nothing but some dizziness. You need to try taking it on a day you are off work and see how it effects you before driving on it.

I know they don't have a DUI test for xanax but if I get into an accident while at work they drug test and xanax would show up. I'm just not sure if they (my company and or the DOT -department of transportation) would consider that a fireable ofense. Kind of don't want to bring up to my boss that I'm going to be on xanax. At .25mg I can guarantee that I could drive perfectly normal.

Hopefully the doc doesn't take the xanax away after I tell her that I plan to use them during the day. It really did help considerably when I took it right before a stressful situation the other day.

They can drug test for Xanax? News to me (except in expensive, specialised tests).
My company would do a drug test, yes. I figure xanax would show up, wouldn't it? Whatever, I'm not that worried about that scenario happening. I'm just hoping the doc lets me continue with the xanax for my anxiety and not...bedtime use or whatever she's prescribing it for. :stu

I go in tomorrow so I'll update this thread then.

Well I went back in today. I told the doc that I tried xanax in the daytime before some anxious moments and that it helped. She seemed to not really take much from that. I told her I believe I have social anxiety and she prescribed Paxil... I don't know much about Paxil but she says it's for SA. She did not prescribe any more xanax, which I was hoping she would do. How is Paxil? I'm going to research it a bit but I'd like to know if this is a good thing..
