Just tell your Doc you get panic attacks a couple times a week and would rather treat with something that can be used "as needed". I wouldn't waste my time taking the SSRI's, unless you are riddled with anxiety ALL day EVERY day.

If you really want to force the issue with your doc, mention that the SSRI he prescribed is giving you extreme side effects and give some examples

For example I was once prescribed effexor and after 3 days of taking it I would get light headed and dizzy at random times. That really sucks when your on a roof 60' high

I'm reading up on the negative effects of the pills right now, gonna bring them up the next time I see him, these are just making me tired and emotionless. That really doesn't solve anything, just makes me a zombie
Lol. That is why I hated them. I told my Doc that they make me feel flat, apathetic, and emotionless. Benzos made me feel that way as well, but at least with them I would only feel that way for the duration of a few hours. Not ALL day.

I am starting to think that SAD is a secondary disorder being caused by something else and treating the SAD alone won't deliver you the results your looking for.

Check out "Sluggish Cognitive Tempo" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sluggish_cognitive_tempo

It's basically a subtype of Inattentive AD/HD.

I'm not saying you have it, but I think I do, and I think it's my reason for SA. I'm just dissapointed that it took me like 2 years to find it

Also I told him about my drug history. I've stopped doing drugs entirely for the past month/two including weed to, so now hes probably weary about prescribing something besides useless pills.
Also I would NEVER tell a doctor whether true or not about my drug history. Ethically it maybe wrong but most doctor will label you a substance abuser in there minds and be ULTRA conservative when it comes to prescribing meds.

I wish more docs were open when it comes to drugs. Afterall most people just use drugs as a way of self medicating anxiety not realizing there can be more effective treatments.

Just my opinion

Who required the drug test? The law? The doctor? Maybe it's different in Canada but if a doctor were to require me to get a drug test to get meds I would definitly say F'You

And I don't even do drugs......well illegal ones :afr
