There have been alternative views on that for a while, instead of hybridization the 4% can be attributed to incomplete lineage sorting...

I have to think such views will only become more accepted due to this recent news.
I just watched a show on the neanderthals and they said it was hybridisation as well. They tested some students in a classroom to show them how much neanderthal DNA each had. The highest was a girl who had 4% neanderthal DNA.
