Hi,

Here was my 1st thread w/ Propranolol.
http://www.socialanxietysupport.com/forum/f30/my-situation-updated-prescribed-propranolol-72798/

My main symptoms and concerns are social anxiety situations, which can lead me to sweat. I am sensitive to heat and sweat easier, but in stressful, embarrassing, or heavy concentrated situations, I will just sweat around my head.

I went back and was prescribed Lorazepam. I have work tomorrow, so I'm wondering if the anxiety will build up. Right now, I popped .5 MG in my mouth.

I plan on going basketball later on in the day and see how it affects my sweat. If others have suggestions on medication for my sweating issue, please post. =)

Thanks

Uh... what?

As good as lorazepam can be for anxiety, no benzo is going to stop you from sweating when you're doing something as physical as playing basketball...

I remember trying lorazepam at an emergency room for a panic attack and didnt really do much for me. clonazepam seems to help me more with panic attacks.

Lorazepam is generally better for panic attacks as it's shorter-acting and reaches peak effects much quicker.

It really all depends on the dose that's being taken.

If you need something for sweating, you could ask your doctor about Xerac AC. It's a topical clear liquid that you can rub on the areas you don't want to sweat - and they don't sweat! My dermatologist prescribed it for me back in high school. I've since stopped needing it, but it was effective when I did need it.

It seems to be related to anxiety, and just over reactive glands?

And so I tired .5 and went to lunch and stuff w/ family. I didn't make or think too much of it, but I kept on trying to feel if it was working. I really am not sure.

Though i might just be creating psychological feels for myself..

Here's a breakout update.

So I took .5 before work and about 1 hour in took another .5. So I literally had 1 MG in my body.

It seemed to work. I had sporadic, spontaneous events, meetings and I didnt' sweat ! It was muggy as heck today though.

A normal trip to bank and lunch gettings woulda left me more sweat but I didn't ! At starbucks, there were some girls which would've caused me to cower and hide behind something and create anxiety, disappeared.

Who knows.

I did feel more sedated but super mellow. The drug seems to last quite long. I might go 1mg from the start and see how it goes.

Would love input from you folks as well as suggestions.
Thanks

Grats that it works well, but don't take it too often because of tolerance.

Thanks.

So far so good. I have yet to see myself in an embarrassing situation or on the spot type deal. So we'll see.

Thank you for the PM help and for helping. I will update. =)

I wouldn't think sweating looked out of place when playing basketball or other vigorous athletic activity. Now if you were sweating like that at room temperature when everyone else was dry, then that would be a problem.

Lorazepam took about the same time to kick in as clonazepam, for me.
They can kick in in roughly the same amount of time, especially if taken sublingually, which I wasn't disputing, but lorazepam will reach its full effects more quickly than clonazepam.

Dr Oz just did a show on excessive sweating and the new cure is botox shots under the arms. I don't know what you can do about the head sweating.
I have my doubts about physical remedies to anxiety symptoms, like that botox thing. If you prevent yourself from sweating, what's to say your mind won't find something else to worry about? The answer to that I'd say depends on where your SA came from. If you have one specific phobia (e.g sweating) with a clear cause, doing something physical like that botox thing probably would be more helpful than if you are a generally neurotic person like me. If I was unable to shake, blush & speak anxiously back in school, my feelings of unease with socialising and life in general (not just related to specific fears) would probably have caused some other thing to worry about before long, such as sweating (you gave me an idea :p). I'm sure we can all agree, the loop of anxiety -> symptoms -> anxiety can be pretty ruthless.

I love the replies.

Day 2 at work w/ 1mg. I can straight out and say that the drug will be felt in you. It carries some sedation, but nothing close to being drunk. Although the memory, side track and ease of distraction can occur.

I had some impromptu meetings again, and I can just recall and see myself anxious w/ thoughts, and anxious about my sweat. I still exhibited some anxious behavior. Going to the bathroom and worried about my looks. What boosted my confidence was when I felt I could be saved by the drug. I actually spoke out and asked a question during the meeting. It was a dumb question, but it got the flow going !

I think I will avoid it tomorrow, unless I need it. I promised to test my reaction and so far so good. I think like everything, the addiction is a habitual development of things. So if I dont' take it, I hope I'll be fine. I will use them when I have meetings and when I feel I need to. At least weekends I'm totally off of this. lol

Anxiety and sweat is uncontrollable, no matter how much you think cognitive conditioning and training will do, you simply cannot control a subconscious reaction. I would sweat within 5 minutes when my boss would come over, shock me and start a discussion w/ me. It was pathetic.

I still worry and have anxious thoughts, but I suppose my nervous system is relaxed, so that it doesn't over react. I will try see, and hopefully I am subliminally developing an inner confidence that won't cause me to sweat.

Thanks.

I will continue to update and answer questions. I might ask to try a diff't benzo just to see, maybe clonazepam. But this Lorazepam is pretty fast acting. It's like I have a brand new life, a brand new me.

I still wouldnt' want to be taking medication daily.

Thank you all =)

Update: 10/23/09

I haven't been on this Lorazepam for 2 days and I try my best not to take it. There has been a few times where I wanted to reach for it badly but resisted.

I have plenty of meetings upcoming and we'll see how it goes.

Thanks.

10/27/09:
Today I found myself using this !

I was anxious and had a panic situation due to work being too hectic ! I could've gone w/o it, but I didn't want the sweat to hit during interaction. So I popped 1mg in. It worked quite well and calmed me down rather quick...

I am running out of mines, about 10-15 left. I think I will call my doctor and ask for a refill or something. Should I ask him to try some other benzos similar?

Thanks.
