She was always shy growing up, people would always say stuff to her like "How come you never talk?"

Her dad died when she was 16 and it was the worse thing that had ever happened to her, but after that she became less shy.

Since her dad dying was such a bad thing, everything else seemed like small potatoes. In having seen the worst hand that life could deal her, she lost a lot of her fears.

The real goal in therapy for SA is to change how someone thinks. you can do it slowly, yet effectively with CBT, or, if a huge event happened, it could change how you see the world. This could be through a death, joining the military, reading a really inspirational book, taking up religion, etc.
