you've got the right approach.

dv/dt = rate in - rate out = change in volume with time

rate in = 2cm3/sec
rate out = c * sqrt(h), c some constant

Wow, that was quick!

Yeah, i didn't pay attention to the proportionality of the square root of the height to the water running out.

why do maths problems always seem so simple when i know the answer???

aw, you're welcome - you get the hang of it as you work more problems. when you see the word "proportional" it usually always means some constant times something.
