What is 25% of $177.11

I need to know the answer, as well as a detailed breakdown of how you got it.

I have to take a test for an upcoming job and I know there will be a few math problems like this one.

This leaves us with 0.25. Now, how do we get 25% of the $177.11? We multiply by 0.25, leaving us with $44.2775.

I hope this helps!

I get that much. The problem I have is I don't even remember how to multiply .25x177.11:blush

I guess I've relied on calculators for so long that I've forgotten how to do it by hand.

Edit: oh, for a job interview/application type thing? I see, I guess. And lots of people don't know how to work out percentages, don't feel too bad.

Because I have a job test coming up and no calculators are allowed. There will be multiple problems involving finding the percentage of a certain dollar amount. Why do you need to do it by hand?

25/100 * 177.11/1

er, can anyone take it from here? I hate fractions, can never remember the rules...

Just multiply 177.11 by 25, and then divide by 100. It's easier then multiplying by .25

1/4 *177.11/1

Now, multiply the top numbers together to get the top number of the new fraction, and the bottom numbers together to get the bottom number of the new fraction:

1 * 177.11 = 177.11

4 * 1 = 4

so 1/4 *177.11/1 = 177.11/4

So now you need to divide 177.11 by 4. I hope somebody on the forum can explain long division better than me?

OK, ignore me, Max's ways are better

I think it's safe to say that the answer to the question has been sufficiently found.

Wow you guys are good

Oh that's a neat way of doing it.or

25%=10%+10%+5%=10%+10%+10%/2

10% of 177.11=.1*177.11=17.711 approx=17.71

5%->17.711/2=17/2+.70/2 approx=8.50+.35=8.85

17.71

17.71

8.85

+_____

$44.27

Another way is, since 25% is 1/4, it's just a half of a half. So take half of the original (177.11/2 = 88.56) and then half again 88.56/2 = 44.28
