Jury Duty!!!!

I just got a letter today and my name was "drawn for services as a trial juror".. I'm really scared, I don't want to go.. I have thought of the how it could be beneficial to me, but negative thoughts began to pop in my head.. :um

I know I'm always trying to be possitive but I just don't feel prepared for that, especially if the trial lasts more than a day.. I don't take any medication and I havent been to therapy in over 2 years but I have considered going back because SA is so complicated, but not impossible to overcome on my own.

I might just go to the court and force my self to be there but if I'm too anxious even before the day arrives, I don't know if I could get excused. I would probably need a doctor's note to show that I have SAD, but again, I haven't been to therapy sinse my therapists quit and I don't know if I would have to speak to another therapist to diagnose me again or something and prove that I have a "mental disability"...

What should I do?

Here in Michigan they go by the drivers licenses.
Using the DMV instead of registered voters is supposed to produce a more diverse mix, since basically everyone drives regardless of income/education/social status while voting is something a high school drop out is far less likely to do than someone with more education.

I am ashamed to say, I am 43 years old and never registered to vote in fear that I would be called for jury duty. It terrifies me!!! If I were required to go, I would get a doctor's note explaining my condition... I would rather go to jail. Completely irrational, but true.
I always figured the above belief was a factor as well. I've heard a # of times on tv/radio it stated 'don't be afraid to reg. to vote that's not how they get names jury duty' over the last 15 yrs. So it obviously has a neg effect on votorship as long as people believe it's the case and is still a common belief.

I hadn't voted since I think the only people with a chance to win are from the two main parties. Get into mudslinging and will tell you anything to get elected but then forget & just go with there special interest group buddies once in.

That & having to go to a public place with lines & such to vote. I hope someday we will be able to vote from home. Like doing your tax return. Over the internet or phone. Perhaps at atm's. If it could be secure enough I bet it would increase the number of voters.
Just read a bit in my local news this morning about this guy spending 83 days in jail for skipping jury duty....

I've been called up twice for jury duty, but never selected to serve.
It's not so bad. Nobody really expects you to talk or do anything. You just show up, and chances are you won't even be picked.
They like to call up a much larger pool of jurors than they'll actually need.
Jury duty isn't that hard and I have serious SA issues. But it is stressful, I really hate seeing that letter in the mail.

Don't believe the scary language in the letter saying they will put you in prison if you don't go. If you don't go but say you didn't get the letter and promise to go later they forget about it. As long as you eventually do go they don't give a crap.
I think I should go................. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
^Yes go. It's not as bad as you imagine.
Crap I got a jury questionnaire in my mail today. The last time I got one was 13 years ago. They learned that I moved. Well time to move again. :lol
I just got a jury duty notice in the mail today. I always thought it would be interesting to try it. If I get picked, I just hope it's an interesting case.
I have jury duty on monday (and the following monday)! I'm actually excited to see what it's like :)

I'm glad I read this thread. I'll bring a book to read while killing time.
