Hey guys. I am an an accountant, that said , before I went to Grad. school and became an accountant, I worked as a bank teller. I have OCD, dyslexia and I believe social anxiety (not diagnosed) . This all happened a few years back.

Firstly, i'll admit that I underperformed. They fired me within about 3-4 weeks. However, here are some of the things that occurred
-Boss told me that I am "lazy" and stated that he could not believe that someone with 2 degree could not do the job.
-Would often tell me (like the first point that I made) that I should be able to do the job and often imply that I am lazy.
-Told me that I should work fast food before leaving the job when I asked him a suggestion.
-Screamed at me and told me " don't say "yeah" thats rude. in front of a customer. (I used the word "yeah" instead of yes or yes sir when talking to a customer.)
-Female boss would sometimes discipline me in front of other employees. One time she got mad because I forgot to put the toilet seat down, and screamed at me for it in front of another employee (the other employee was female and I am male) . That said, I did forget to put the toilet seat down twice.

But I did underperform. I was curious, is this typical behavior of underperforming employees or did they overreact? I did notice that my current employees do **** talk employees who underperformed but were later fired. Thoughts?

Sorry to hear that ordeal. That workplace sounds like a pretty toxic social environment. The behavior of your bosses screams (no pun intended) a lot of unprofessionalism red flags. For an underperforming worker, you simply let them know and to keep it objective, and do the same when you're firing them. Screaming insults is unconstructive and accomplishes nothing other than for their own emotions. Throwing emotions in is unprofessional.

Hopefully it ends up being a blessing in disguise that you're now no longer working there.

Seems very unprofessional of her in my opinion. If you were underperforming, she could have handled it much better. She could have politely discussed where you need to improve, given you enough time to improve the things she mentioned, and then politely fire you without any screaming or harsh personal attacks if there weren't any improvements. Honestly I would be relieved to be away from a boss that screams and talks disrespectfully like you said.
And the toilet seat thing is such a little deal. She could easily just put the seat down herself and shut her mouth about it.

Yeah, I mean they should have just let me go nicely. That type of behavior was just disturbing. I mean it was only a part time job in college, but still. It still haunts me.

Even for underperforming, this is just plain rude, disrespectful, nasty, troll, hard *** & unprofessional on that company's part. Very toxic, you probably should've taken this up with HR or someone above, because this is not okay. You don't talk to employees this way, even if they are inexperienced. You don't reduce people's worth or insult them to get them to learn. There are more polite ways to get a point across. This is not a good look for them, because why would anyone want to work for them if that's how they treat employees.
