To have parents on your back with keeping up with your studies when doing tertiary education? I mean,I'm 22 and I'm bloody sick of my parents having to ring up the tutors and find out about me. I just want to be left alone.

No, it's not unusual. You should be happy that they care so much.

Your parents ring up your tutors? That sounds pretty excessive. On the other hand, if they're paying for your tuition, you kind of owe it to them to keep them posted on how you're doing. Can you ask them to stop ringing your tutors and hassling you, in exchange for you keeping them in the loop?

My parents are overly interested in my marks too. I'm 21. They call me after all my exams to see how they went. I have to tell them every mark I get on everything.

I don't mind it at all though. I guess I see it from the other side - I just appreciate that they are still caring. And it's nice to tell someone when you do well in school and have someone to vent at when you don't.

It's called being a helicopter parent! My dad is sort of like that, in that he calls every day, so I guess yes it is a bit usual. Although, if my parents were calling my tutors, that would drive me absolutely up a wall! I stopped telling my parents my GPA after it dropped a bit last semester. Turns out, it's easy to just not tell them!

one time I was avoiding my violin teacher because I hated her and having lessons on saturday mornings, so she somehow had my home number, 3 hrs away, and called my parents saying I hadn't talked to her. I'm in college! grr. so then I had my parents also worried/pissed at me. It was so stupid

I'm right here with my parents - that's what makes it so hard. If I don't want to go to a class,I can't stay home because one of them will be. They realize if something is going on.
