Maybe dress to what makes you feel like you look nice. Even if it's casual you can wear nice shoes. Wear a nice dress shirt, preferring sleeves unless it's warm and outdoors, and I'd think you could wear a tie if you want to. Make your face and hair reasonably neat and sharp.
It's totally ordinary for people to end up at gatherings like this that no one else knows. Why? Often because people can be expected to find girlfriends or boyfriends and want to come to do things with them and integrate them with the family. It happens all the time to other people. You figure sometimes it's your turn.
