hows the miltary? the USA air force??/

My brother is a Captain in the Air Force, but he joined after getting his Bachelors in Nursing degree. He went to Officer training school for 8 weeks and became a Second Lieutenant. He makes very good money, gets free housing, groceries, and very good health insurance. This coming fall he is going back to school to become a Physician Assistant which the Air Force will pay for, and give him his normal pay check. He has served in Afghanistan three times, flew into Iraq many times, and also was on the crew that saved the hostages in Columbia.

If it's something that you want to do then I would recommend it. There are pros and cons, but overall I thought it was a good experience.

Wow, yea they do make good money. How old is he?

Maybe I should go back to school and a get a BA and go as in a offficer?

Do you have what are typical duties for an officer?

He will be 32 this month. He was 24 when he went to OTS.

When he is in the states he works in the Air Force hospital where he is based. He does typical Nurse stuff. He had to do a period of overseas duty. He first was sent to Germany to the hospital there and on occasion he would fly out on these big transport planes to Afghanistan and Iraq to go get the wounded soldiers and bring them back to Germany. He also spent a few months on an old Soviet base in Afghanistan. He likes it a lot. He even asked me to go do it and I told him it wasn't my thing. I don't even like when my clients get angry and threaten me with violence. I wouldn't like snipers shooting at me. Also, you have to do the OTS training in southern Alabama that heat and humidity would kill me. I been living up here in Siberia too long. My blood has thicken up too much. When it gets in the mid 80's it kills me.

Hey, my brother is in the air force (so were my parents). I don't have any experience... just wanted to say that the being able to be stationed in different countries must be fun as an adult. It was fun for me in Germany and England and i was only 4-6... I still remember a lot. My brother lives in England atm with his wife and young children, so that's cool for them.

Wouldn't having SA disqualify someone, or am I wrong?

yea, but i never been to a doctor or taken anti-depressants before about SA. So Im good

well man, i was in the Army and was never seen about SA prior to joining. I'm telling you that if your SA is bad then you will NOT be comfortable at ALL. No kidding. You will be singled out especially if you're quiet. They will do everything they can to break you out of your shell. After a year in I basically went crazy and was sent to the psychiatrist. Diagnosed as Avoidant Personality then was kicked out.

With all that said, if your SA isn't too severe then it could be a good experience. I would suggest the Officer route though. Being enlisted sucked lol

i was in for 3 years in the late 90s. helped with my SA a great deal. i hated some stuff of it but dont regret joining. sometimes i miss it but overall it sucks :lol the pay isnt that great either but ive never had so many friends before or after the army. try to avoid the combat jobs though because those are the ones that suck
