how much do you pay for your internet?

558 Views 17 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  SummerRae
I recently realised my contract is up for renewal. it's been with sky superfast, it started out at £25 and after 18 months it's now at £46.10. they did warn me at the start of the contract the prices would increase but I didnt think they would be up that much. I'm not great at maths but thats quite a hefty increase. just wondering if everyone else is getting stung with the cost of living going up?

We have Sparklight cable internet and it's $92.50 a month.

Don't remember what it started at, but I think every internet I've ever had started with some introductory rate and went up quite a bit after some time.

Edit: it's 300mbps and a 1200gb plan
Mine is like $87 a month for high speed internet with Xfinity. I feel like that's too much, it should be more like $50. I don't remember how much it used to cost when I first got the plan. Originally I had cable as well but cancelled cable to save some money since I never watch TV.

I wish we had Google Fiber around here, it's $70 a month for 1 gigabit/s speeds. My Xfinity connection is around 200 megabits/s.
I have Spectrum, which costs me about $85 per month. Every year it goes up $5-$10 and I'm increasingly annoyed. It's like they want to punish me for being a long-time customer. Well, fine... I'll just keep paying stupid high prices because I can't be bothered to switch.

We are grandfathered in with Spectrum at $62 a month. It is not as high speed 40mbits but that is more than enough for my entire family to stream videos, game, or browse the web at the same time. Anything more than that would probably be a waste because we wouldn't be using it.

Count your blessings. Mine is still in the stone age at 1.5. It's just enough to watch youtube at 480p (with occasional buffering when my parents are using Roku). If mine was 200, I'd feel like I was flying.
I pay $30 for cellular internet, but it's spotty. My parents pay for regular internet. Don't really see the point of paying for both mobile and regular internet. Would be nice if a company sold a package plan for both mobile and cable/fibre.
$20/mo currently split between 3 people with AT&T. It's a subsidized plan for low income people, through my dad's sister's name who use to live this address before me. She was nice enough to allow me to keep it under her name so we can get cheaper internet. So we were able to keep the plan all of these years. But it's way on the slow side - 40mbps download and 10mbps upload. But this was after a speed upgrade recently which was even slower prior. So the two newest housemates ended up getting their own internet service with Xfinity because the speed is too slow for them for HD streaming. The other existing housemate also joined in on their plan because he needed faster speeds for his twitch channel where he broadcasts his live dj sessions. So way too slow of speeds for the typical Gen-Z ers I suppose.😅
I currently qualify for the UK Social Tariffs that a lot of providers now offer.

Not sure if you'll qualify @galaxy09. It would be worth your while checking just in case.

I'm with BT and mine tops out around 38Mbs for £15 a month. I live on my own, and it's plenty of speed and bandwidth for me at the moment. It works well for streaming TV/movies and gaming.

Too much. But a least it hasn't gone above $90 yet.
$30/mo plan from Comcast Xfinity, except the federal affordable connectivity program is a $30/mo credit so I pay nothing. I'm measuring 86 Mbps down, 12 up. I live in a small town where Comcast has a monopoly with satellite being the only other option, so I'm surprised city people aren't getting cheaper options.

Those of you who use Comcast, switch to one of their 12 month special pricing deals. When the 12 months are up, either switch to a different 12 month plan at a similar price or use their chat to ask them to keep your bill from going up and they always have a way. If you just ignore it and let your discount expire they'll happily quadruple your bill, but they seem equally happy to keep it low if asked.
My last bill was at $45 bucks and that was for 400Mb download. Been like that for 11 months.

Yikes, that's like dial-up speed lol. And I thought 200 mbps was slow. Guess I didn't realize how spoiled I was haha.

Well, it's not quite as slow as dial-up speed but it's in no way faster than molasses. I remember dial-up speed very well. And most specifically because it was pretty much impossible to stream any kind of video with it. But yeah. I don't even know what I'd do with 200 mbps. Seems like you could probably easily have ten people streaming 1080p with that kind of speed. Considering I can (just barely) get 720p if I'm the only one using it. I know 1080p is not the best now but it's damn good even for a big screen.
I get mine for nothing - because I live in public housing. I had to pay when I first came here but then the Salvos told me that someone was organising free internet for the entire building - I have no idea who it is but it's very nice of them. I've been very lucky in a number of ways and I'm very grateful for it.
Xfinity is notorious for raising your price every few months. You always find yourself paying almost $90 but they have no problem giving new people $50 temporary rates which makes it more frustrating. I was paying almost $90 but I was having problems with my internet after they did an upgrade in my area causing me to call them everyday. One guy on the phone offered me a rate of $66 because he could tell I was getting put out on all the issues. I was like cool for like 6 months and then it will start going back up? He was like no forever, I was like sure whatever that's not how your company operates. It has been over a year and a half and I am still paying $66 a month. I also have my phone through Xfinity and only pay $14.00 so it all works out.

It's $97 a month. That includes $37 for a landline phone that is included in the deal.
Y’all got it easy. I have GCI and pay $180 a month, nothing else no landline/cable/tv stuff. 😒
