Hi all,

New to the forum, so please excuse me if this has already been discussed.

My therapist recommended that I try visiting a homeopath. Firstly he prescribed 1M Arsenic Album, which didn't do too much for me. Right now he has me on 1M Calci Carb (chalk!). Not too much of an effect on my SAD. Still blushing, and occasionally sweating.

My question, has anyone tried homeopathic treatments for SAD or its 'symptoms'? Any positive/negative effects? Did it work?

You can follow my daily life living with SAD on my blog at, as well as whether the treatments/remedies are working:

Thanks

with all anxiety conditions theres a strong placebo effect, cynically exploited by those who sell very expensive SA pills for a miracle cure, the more expensive, the better the likely placebo effect

Ive never seen any evidence that homeo or naturapaths are any more helpful than placebo effect
IMo arsnic in no matter how small the dose is dangerous as it accumulates in the body, it was popular as a tonic in the old days until it was realised that it stayed in the body

however, the placebo effect for benzps and antidepressant meds is somewhere between 30 and 50 percent for anxiety so go figure :fall

Surprisingly there a few studies even in major medical journals suggesting homeopathy offers benefits beyond placebo for some conditions (i.e. diarrhea in children, etc.). Though nobody knows how this is possible given the minute amount of ingredient.

Homeopathy for childhood diarrhea: combined results and metaanalysis from three randomized, controlled clinical trials.

Jacobs J, Jonas WB, Jimenez-Perez M, Crothers D.

Department of Epidemiology, University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Seattle, WA, USA. [email protected]

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown a positive treatment effect of individualized homeopathic treatment for acute childhood diarrhea, but sample sizes were small and results were just at or near the level of statistical significance. Because all three studies followed the same basic study design, the combined data from these three studies were analyzed to obtain greater statistical power. METHODS: Three double blind clinical trials of diarrhea in 242 children ages 6 months to 5 years were analyzed as 1 group. Children were randomized to receive either an individualized homeopathic medicine or placebo to be taken as a single dose after each unformed stool for 5 days. Parents recorded daily stools on diary cards, and health workers made home visits daily to monitor children. The duration of diarrhea was defined as the time until there were less than 3 unformed stools per day for 2 consecutive days. A metaanalysis of the effect-size difference of the three studies was also conducted. RESULTS: Combined analysis shows a duration of diarrhea of 3.3 days in the homeopathy group compared with 4.1 in the placebo group (P = 0.008). The metaanalysis shows a consistent effect-size difference of approximately 0.66 day (P = 0.008). CONCLUSIONS: The results from these studies confirm that individualized homeopathic treatment decreases the duration of acute childhood diarrhea and suggest that larger sample sizes be used in future homeopathic research to ensure adequate statistical power. Homeopathy should be considered for use as an adjunct to oral rehydration for this illness.

New study says homeopathic medicines don't work

I am not convinced that they work, and after spending a lot of money of them I don't think I will be going back. This story out today just strengthens my belief.

Also, from a purely capitalist point of view if Homeopathy did work wonders then why aren't the big drug companies also investing time and money making money from them?

Because if they really worked, they would really work (not to sound like Yogi Berra) - they're usually administered over the short term - and drug companies would not have a product that they could sell people for the rest of their lives.
