Hello everyone. I am a 20 years old college student from California, trying to overcome social anxiety the "self-help" way for now.

Recently, I decided to finally do something about my social anxiety. I may also have obsessive-compulsive (I am sure about this one) and probably some agoraphobia. Right now I'm following the Anxiety & Phobia workbook 4th edition by Edward J. Bourne, but I haven't done anything yet...I joined this forum since its nice to be around others who have social anxiety also.

My social anxiety interferes with my career goals in life (I am a politics major). Pursing this major is probably the most difficult part, because it doesn't fit my "personality"..but who knows I don't know if I will end up changing later, there's so much conflict in my head going on about my direction in life ...

The biggest problem I have right now is wanting to speak out but staying quiet because I am too afraid. I am okay around small groups but the anxiety is always getting to me. I feel as my social anxiety makes me into a person I'm not. I feel I can't be uniquely myself anymore. The last time when I did not have social anxiety, I was a ruthless person and probably snobby.

My workbook does require me to take risks, but I don't know if I could do it. I am so impatient sometimes. :blank
