I've been deaf in my left ear since I was born. It left me frustrated that I had to repeat stuff over and over to people, and I become frustrated that I couldn't hear a simple request or joke, especially if the guy spoke with an accent. This has left me pretty much alone and unable to connect with a lot of people. I got a hearing aid, with some results, but not helpful if there's background noise or if the person is far away, even if I clean the pipes everyday. I ended up doing things myself without asking for help and becoming independent. I even try to carry on conversations and guess what I just heard.
After job searching a lot, I got into a field I avoided like the plague, which is sales, being a salesperson at a retail store. I connect with people better if they do have a hearing problem and I am more enthusiastic about helping them out.
Is there anybody here who's been deaf, or know anybody that is that has had similar experiences.
