Oh yes. The following have applied to me.

• Asking for money
• Trying for make me thier friend
• Asking for directions
• Asking for the time
• Mentally ill guy
• Asking for donation
• Asking me to join a volunteering group/Org

I react differently to each but still feel uncomfortable about a stranger speaking to me in general. I get asked the most if I have any cigarettes. You'll have neighbors knock on your door asking for some and then have people tap on your car window in public. I get really irked cause I don't smoke. I just reply in a nice bashful tone though unless they're being really persuasive.

Mostly for me it's tourists asking for directions, or people unfamiliar with the city asking me where to catch whatever number bus.

There's also way too many charity groups or people conducting survey's stoping people in the streets, it's a nightmare trying to avoid them all but sometimes it's unavoidable...although I'm quite happy to be approached by the people giving out free stuff!

And too often I get apporached by people asking for change, and I genuinely don't have change on me when I'm asked.

Or I get asked to buy the Big Issue.

I'd like to say I've been approached by a strange woman wanting to talk to me in a friendly way, but that's never happened. I'm only approached by beggars. Back when I was in college, I was taken advantage of by this smooth talking black swindler. I guess I was pretty naive then. He approached me as I was walking to school and said that he was a counselor for at-risk youths and that he had to dress like a bum to fit in with them. He explained that he kept his real clothes in a locker at some place, and needed cab fare to get to the place, that he hadn't brought his wallet (or something like that). I said I only had a $20 bill, so he said he would take that and meet me later in the day to pay me back. I really believed him, because he walked with me part of the way to school and seemed pretty believable. We arranged to meet outside a pizzeria later on. Surprise, surprise, he never showed, the scuzzy b*astard.

Yesterday I was approached by many sales people at the mall. The first guy was giving out lotion samples and asked if I always keep my nails in a natural state. I said "Yes", and that was when I was swept away in that wonderful smelling lotion and he was so adorable. Inside I was nervous and just really wanted to go into invisible mode when he asked to see my hands I told him I have a rare form of psoriasis, and hid my hands in my pockets, but for some reason I decided to just go with it. I opened my hands and showed him my ugly, scaly, spotted hands. Anyways to make a long 20 minute story short. He had me rubbing Salt from the Dead Sea on my hands, he dabbed lotion into my hands, and buffed my nails to a shine I never seen them before. The difference in my hands and nails was like night and day, and I felt like I had been to a spa. He wasn't afraid to touch my hands, which really freaked me out. That's the most physical contact I've had with a person (besides my children) in over three years. It felt so freaking good that I think I fell in love with the guy. I bought the nail care kit and lotion for $25, talked down from the $45 he was asking for... originally priced at $80...which was a ridiculous price. My hands felt amazing for the rest of the day, the scales are still gone. My nails look amazing.

Being approached by strangers should be happening all the time if you are actively trying to overcome your SA through exposure. People that stay locked away in there homes will be there for a awhile, and it gets harder to socialize over time. I want to go back again to see him and get some of that Dead Sea Salt if I can decent price for it. That stuff did wonders for my hand problem. The rest of the salespeople I encountered yesterday got the "Sorry I'm in a hurry", smile, and I walked away quickly.

Some guy tried to get me to go somewhere secluded with him. o.o (why I clicked "escort/prostitute" because it was the closest thing) First he sat at a bus bench and wanted sympathy because he said he was depressed and wanted to kill himself and whatnot, and I tried to help him.

Then he started rubbing his crotch and told me I was jailbait and wanted to take me somewhere else to "hang out".
