My mother wants to take me to the local clinic and get a referral from them. I am having a lot of trouble with this. I don't know how I could possibly tell something so personal and difficult to share to a random clinic doctor who i wikl never see again. I don't know how much to share. Would I get the same results if I just say that I am having anxiety problems? There is so much less stigma for that. Do I have to tell the initial clinic doctor that it is social? I am so scared that I am in tears. I don't want to go to the ****ing clinic and have them say, after i explain everything, that I've come to the wrong place! :afr:afr:afr

I personally was very uncomfortable with the idea of taking medication when I first considered it, so I have an idea how you feel.

It depends on the doctor (and possibly your insurance's requirements for referrals to "specialists") how much they will want to know.

You don't have to tell your doctor anything you're not comfortable telling them, but usually it's in your best interest.

You might want to consider being honest with him about your social anxiety because he may refer you differently based on that.

But if you are really uncomfortable with the idea of doing that, it's probably more important that you go, tell them you are having anxiety problems, get the referral and then be completely honest with the doctor who will be prescribing you medication.

Either way, let us know how it goes. :)
