I just arrived home from my vacation in Florida on the beach. It was fun and VERY relaxing being away from everyone I know and not having to work :D

However, it was not "all good" because of my SA. I was with my older brother and he is more of the partier type and went out at night etc.
The first night I told him I would go to a bar with him, thinking I could do it because I was in a new place.. Well I made it through but did not talk to a single person, or have fun at all for that matter. After that night I just stayed in every night and watched TV. I feel like I missed out on so much fun I could have had if I were not so anxious in large groups of people. I don't think there is any way I can "beat" this disorder, and this was the final test for me to see if I could.
Is it really possible to not be anxious? after so many years...

The only thing I gained from the trip was I got back into skateboarding (longboarding) and bought some really nice stuff for that. I seen some other people skating but there was no way I would go near them because I thought they would judge everything about me. I feel good when I am out skating by myself but as soon as I approach anyone I am nervous as to what they will say or even think about me. Oh well, I should just be happy that I did have some fun and got to see new faces even if I could not talk to them :|

i've been in the same situation. my brother and I on vacation, he wants to go party at a bar or nightclub and hook up. he dresses up really stylish and twists my arm to do the same. I feel so foolish. I don't have stylish clothes. I would rather watch tv or eat. there's tension between us. he get's pissed. we don't go together any longer.

i say do what you like, skating, go for it. it's a vacation, do want you want.

one time I went to vegas (with all the gambling and strip clubs!!! which i really did not enjoy, especially being approached by aggressive woman who just want your money.) So I TWISTED my brother's arm to mountain biking in the desert outside vegas. He's not a biker and we had a blast, it was great. it was a small group with a guide and they were all just out to bike. the rest of the guys in our hotel thought it was stupid but i know they missed out as they dropped $$$ at the casino or just hung out at the pool (lame).

Well at least it wasn't a total let down. When you see skater people I would try to be open minded. It shouldn't be about how good you are, but that you're all there having fun doing something that you love doing. Learn from each other and it will make you all better skaters.

Yeah I tried to get my brother to buy a board while we were down there but he wasn't having it haha. Would have been cool though, he never wants to do anything that doesn't involve beer and women lol.
